Four UW-Eau Claire scientists shared their views on science and spirituality Tuesday night (Feb. 23) at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Eau Claire.
The discussion centered on science, spirituality and how the two can be reconciled. Some 60 students and Eau Claire community members attended the program to hear the panelists discuss how they integrated their studies with their personal faith.
Derek Gingerich, associate professor of biology, said he thought that “for a lot of Christians, where the issue of evolution comes from is the idea that evolution is unguided, or random.” He then asked: “How do we reconcile the belief of an active God with the idea of an evolutionary process which science very clearly shows is active in the world?”
