Applications open for slots in statewide free dental treatment program
Applications are now open for treatment slots in the Donated Dental Services (DDS) program provided through the Wisconsin Dental Association (WDA) Foundation. The program works with patients who don’t qualify for government assistance programs and who can’t afford dental care.
Chippewa Valley Book Festival unveils new branding, website ahead of 19th annual event in October
The Chippewa Valley Book Festival has rebranded its name and website ahead of this fall’s annual event, which will run from Oct. 15-25 at numerous area locations.
The new website premiered June 1 and includes a new logo and tagline. The Festival will be one of the first organizations to use the new Pablo Center at the Confluence when it present Pulitzer Prize-winning author Caroline Fraser on Oct. 23.
Chippewa County history re-enactment draws record number of 4th graders
This year’s presentation of “The Past Passed Here” attracted a record number of fourth grade students, who supplemented their classroom study of Wisconsin history with a visit to Allen Park in Chippewa Falls. There, they took part in re-enactments of the local lumbering and fur trade eras that were part of that history. The contributed photo (above) shows an 18th century voyageur, Jean Pierre Ledoux (portrayed by Randy Bausert of Elgin, IL), displaying European manufactured goods brought to trade with Native Americans for their valuable furs and explaining why these items were so attractive for trade.
