By Katherine Schneider, for the CVPost
On a weekly basis, Kathie Schneider offers heart, hope and an occasional bit of humor in this space. She writes from the perspective of a retired Chippewa Valley clinical psychologist, blind from birth.
These columns will feature various topics related to the coronavirus pandemic as well as some with a broader focus. Today, Kathie deals with the obstacles that the 35 million disabled voters in this country face in trying to exercise their right to cast a ballot.
In the process, she recalls the times that the only way she could cast her ballot was to be assisted by two poll officials . . . a situation which – with the added presence of her guide dog – made the crowded polling booth feel “more like a convention than a secret ballot.”
