The loss of minority groups’ cultural identities during their assimilation into American society will be the focus of a program at 7 p.m. next Monday (Feb. 11) at Eau Claire’s L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library.
The program, “On the Way to the Melting Pot—Then and Now: Waldemar Ager and Hmong History and Culture,” will offer perspectives originating a century apart and half a world from each other. .
Free workshop will be offered Sunday to help students prepare for ACT test
A free three-hour workshop to help high school students prepare for the ACT College Admissions Test is scheduled for next Sunday (Jan. 20) at the L. E. Phillips Memorial Public Library in Eau Claire.

Eau Claire library seeks public input through Dec. 7 on plans for major expansion
The L. E. Phillips Memorial Public Library in Eau Claire is seeking public input from now through Dec. 7 on its plans for a major expansion.
The project would add a third story to the existing building at 400 Eau Claire St. and expand the first and second floors outward to the corner of Eau Claire and Dewey Streets. The project would also upgrade and modernize the building’s infrastructure as well as providing additional space for such additions as a 250-seat performance space. The estimated cost is $23 million.
Tuesday discussion to feature Skype conversation with author of ‘The Elements of Journalism’
The second of two discussions exploring the relationship between journalism and democracy is scheduled for 6 p.m. next Tuesday (Oct. 9) at the L. E. Phillips Memorial Public Library in downtown Eau Claire.
It will feature a Skype conversation with Tom Rosenstiel, co-author of “The Elements of Journalism,” the book that provides the basis for the community read-and-discuss series that began on Wednesday. The events are part of the October “Beyond the Headlines” programming here.
