Lack of transportation, complex federal regulations, the lack of a central housing agency and the impending loss of major federal funding are all contributing to an affordable housing crisis in Eau Claire – one that most people are unaware of. These factors were discussed Monday at a JONAH forum that focused on the critical need to increase the local supply of affordable housing.
Poverty, homelessness and affordable housing slated for discussion at Monday public forum
The public is invited to a continuing discussion of poverty, homelessness and the need for affordable housing in the Chippewa Valley. The forum, sponsored by JONAH and the Affordable Housing Coalition, will pick up where a similar one left off on Feb. 26. The event is scheduled to run from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the First Congregational UCC, 310 Broadway St. in Eau Claire.
JONAH community forum focuses on homelessness and poverty
Poverty and homelessness – and a looming funding crisis that threatens both temporary and sustainable housing for people in need of it – were the focus of a Monday evening forum that attracted some 60 community members to the First Congregational United Church of Christ.
Panelists sketched a picture of Eau Claire County poverty that frequently goes unrecognized, and stressed the need for many more affordable housing units than are now available. .
