David Weiss will conclude his fall lecture series on spirituality and climate change on Sunday evening, when he will discuss ways of resisting the powerful forces bent on exploiting the planet.
He will speak at 7 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church,m 202 W. Grand Ave in Eau Claire. The lecture is free and open to the public. UW-Eau Claire students nd faculty are especially invited to attend, according to Rev. Dean Simpson, the church’s pastor.
Weiss’ first two lectures in this “At Home on Earth” series dealt with honesty in facing the facts about environmental collapse, and with hope in dealing with those facts. All three lectures are based on themes taken from the Hebrew prophets.
Weiss is a public theologian, writer, teacher, poet and self-described “public theologian based inSt. Paul. He has master’s degrees in both theology and ethics and has taught college religion for 15 years. He has also worked locally and nationally with ecumenical programs focused on expanding the welcome to the LGBTQ community.
The lecture series is sponsored by Grace Lutheran Church as part of its Haas Lecture Series which honors former UW-EC Chancellor Leonard Haas, who was a member of the church.
