DeLong Middle School and the Eau Claire Public Schools Foundation have announced the establishment of the DeLong Middle School Endowment fund, which was made possible through a gift from the Joe and Karen Hebl family. This endowed fund will support annual grant awards to honor and recognize student and staff excellence.
On Wednesday, May 27, the DeLong Afternoon of Excellence will feature the presentation of Hebl family grant awards recognizing two DeLong staff members – one teacher and one non-teaching staff member – as well as an award to an achieving 8th-grade student. In addition, DeLong awards for academic excellence and extracurricular success will be awarded.
Joe and Karen Hebl’s nine children all attended DeLong from the mid-1990s through the 2000s and were involved in many academic and extracurricular activities. The family wanted to show its appreciation for the school while also recognizing the contributions of staff and success of current students.
“The Hebl family has created a wonderful and lasting way to annually recognize the quality education offered at DeLong,” said Mary Beth Kelley-Lowe of the ECPSF. “These grants honor teachers, staff and students who make the school a great place to learn.”
