Andrew Fefer has replaced Mike Lopez as news director at WEAU-TV in Eau Claire.
The change took place within the past week. Lopez had been the station’s news director for the past two years.
Fefer referred questions about his appointment to Terry McHugh, WEAU general manager. McHugh was out of town and unavailable to comment on the change.
Now in his second stint at WEAU, Fefer began his television news career in 2001 as a photojournalist at WSAW-TV in Wausau. He later became a news and sports reporter and anchor at the station.
Fefer joined WEAU for the first time in May 2004 as a weekend anchor and reporter. He moved from there to WBAY-TV in Green Bay, where he spent seven months as a reporter/producer, before returning to WEAU in May 2007.
Since then Fefer has reported for WEAU’s evening newscasts and filled in as an anchor on occasion. He also has anchored the station’s “Sunrise” and noon newscasts and been a weekend anchor/reporter.
According to the WEAU website, Fefer will continue to do some reporting and anchoring while serving as the station’s news director.
Fefer attended UW-Eau Claire for two years and graduated with a degree in broadcast journalism from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Lopez came to WEAU in March 2013 after serving as assistant news director for seven years at WVEC-TV, the ABC affiliate in Norfolk, VA.
