A bit of Hollywood is coming to University of Wisconsin-Stout in late June.
A Summer Cinema and Photography Open House, highlighting the university’s cinema program, will be held Friday, June 19, in Micheels Hall and the Applied Arts Building.
Cinema demonstrations and facility tours will be held from 1:30 to 4 p.m., featuring a green screen studio, a live outdoor film set, a drone demonstration, high-speed image capture in the STEM Imaging Lab, and student film screenings.
From 6 to 8 p.m., two industry professionals will speak. Eric Fletcher is a cinematographer who has worked on films and television shows such as “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Dexter,” “Sons of Anarchy,” “The Mentalist” and “Desperate Housewives.” Bruce Dorn, a filmmaker and photographer, is a Canon Explorer of Light, selected by Canon as one of the world’s top photographers and cinematographers.
Also speaking in the evening will be Kevin Pontuti, director of the entertainment design program at UW-Stout and a veteran photographer and cinematographer who previously worked in Los Angeles. Pontuti recently directed and produced the independent film “North Passage.”
The open house will end with a reception from 8 to 10 p.m. in the Memorial Student Center.
The event is free, but participants are encouraged to register at https://foundation.uwstout.edu/pages/events/open-house-speakers-reception.
On Saturday, June 20, Fletcher will present a daylong master class on cinematic storytelling and camera work. Registration is $100. Register at https://foundation.uwstout.edu/pages/events/master-class.
Fletcher’s presentation will include instruction on how professional camera operators plan, rehearse and execute shots, and sequences for film and television.
