A Canadian expert on freedom of expression will discuss the subject several times on Monday (Mar. 27) at the University of Wisconsin-Stout.
James Turk, director of the Centre for Free Expression at Ryerson University in Toronto, will speak from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in ballrooms A and B of the Memorial Student Center. The event is free and open to the public.
The topic of his presentation will be, “Under Attack from All Sides: Freedom of Expression, Academic Freedom and the Future of the University.”
Turk is a professor in the communication and design department at Ryerson.
Along with his presentation, Turk will visit a General Ethics class and a Seminar in Journalism class; meet with University Archivist Heather Stecklein; and meet with Chancellor Bob Meyer and Provost Patrick Guilfoile.
He will finish the day by meeting with the editorial board of the campus student newspaper, the Stoutonia.
Turk’s visit is sponsored by the university’s Center for Applied Ethics and the undergraduate program in professional communication and emerging media.
