Friends of the L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library will be collecting new, unwrapped books through Dec. 23 for its 22nd annual “Give a Kid a Book” project.
Books as well as monetary donations can be dropped off at the Library until then, during regular operating hours. The Library is open fro 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Fridays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and 1 to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
Donated books will be distributed to children and teens through local agencies. Project partners with the Library include Books-A-Million, the Salvation Army, and several other Eau Claire agencies. In 2015, over 4,000 books were distributed to children in need.
Books-A-Million in Eau Claire is also collecting donations through Dec. 17 for its own “Give a Kid a Book” drive.
At the Library, donations can be placed under the evergreen tree. Alternatively, checks can be mailed to Friends of Library, 400 Eau Claire St., Eau Claire 54701. Friends of the Library volunteers will shop for books with the donated money.
Suggestions for new books for the “Give a Kid a Book” project include board books for babies, easy picture books for ages 2 to 5, and fiction and non-fiction books for ages 6 to 18. Audiobooks for all ages up to 18, as well as books written in Spanish and Hmong, also are needed.
Friends of the Library is a non-profit volunteer organization that supports the Library in various ways.
