The search is on for nominations to fill a two-year term as the Eau Claire Writer in Residence, succeeding Max Garland.
The Literary Arts Committee of the Eau Claire Regional Arts Center is seeking nominations for the position. A subcommittee of that group will review the nominations and send its recommendation to the City Council in April for final action.
The deadline for submitting a nomination is Feb. 28. Self-nominations are accepted and encouraged. To submit a nomination, or to view the full position description, visit www.ecpubliclibrary.info/
The role of the Writer in Residence is to “seek to raise our consciousness to a greater appreciation and enjoyment of the value and importance of the reading, performance, publication and writing of literature” for Eau Claire and its residents, according to a press release about the search.
Candidates will be evaluated based on criteria that were adopted by the City Council in 2015. Candidates are expected to live and/or work in the community, and to have knowledge of and be involved in community life.
They are also expected to contribute to the growth of literature in the community, and to promote literature through a variety of social media, written publications, educational opportunities and speaking engagements.
Candidates are recommended to the City Council in April of even-numbered years.
Garland, the current Eau Claire Writer in Residence, previously served as the Wisconsin Poet Laureate, and was recently inducted as Fellow by the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters.
