Music, commentary and pizza will highlight the evening at an Oct. 15 program to benefit Northern Spirit Radio.
The event, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 202 W. Grand Ave., will feature 10 musicians and speakers who will appear either in person or virtually. Emcee for the evening will be Scott Morfitt of BluGold Radio, and displays from local media outlets – including the Chippewa Valley Post – will also be featured.
The program will include presentations by Mike McCabe of BlueJeanNation.com and Matthew Rothschild, former editor of The Progressive magazine and now executive director of the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign. Music will be performed in-person by Ken Lonnquist, Madison’s Minstrel for the Environment, and Eau Claire’s Squirrel Talk, performing the music of tiny places.
Joining the event ‘virtually’ will be six musicians from across the country: Magic Mama (Oregon), Si Kahn (North Carolina), Anne Hills (Pennsylvania), Peter Alsop (California), Tom Rowley (Missouri), and Peter Leidy (Madison). A number of door prizes will be awarded by the end of the evening.
The program is open to the public. The suggested donation for the evening, including pizza, salad, and beverage, is $30. Registration for the event can be completed at www.nsr.rsvpify.com.
“We began broadcasting via WHYS (96.3 FM) radio in 2005, and are now carried on 25 community radio stations across the country,” said Mark Helpsmeet, founder of the listener-supported Northern Spirit Radio. “We seek to bring local voices and music to the wider community in order to make the world a better, richer place to live.”
