A potluck dinner and international folk dancing are on the menu this coming Saturday evening at Spirit Lutheran Church, 1310 Main St. in Eau Claire.
The event is sponsored by humanKIND, the Diversity Committee of the Eastside Hill Neighborhood Association. The public is welcome to attend, said Mark Ruddy, president of the neighborhood group.
The potluck will run from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., followed by 90 minutes of folk dancing taught by Mark Helpsmeet, Eau Claire. He will teach dances for all abilities, from beginners on up.
Helpsmeet has experience using folk dancing from around world as a vehicle to celebrate diversity and connection.
A press release from the neighborhood association suggests that people coming to the potluck “consider bringing a traditional dish of your family’s cultural background” as well as – “for a greener world” – bringing their own dishes and tableware.
