The Master of Science program in vocational rehabilitation at the University of Wisconsin-Stout has been ranked in the top 15 in the United States among online counseling programs.
The organization Best Masters Programs ranked the UW-Stout program 13th in its list of the top 40 counseling programs for 2015.
UW-Stout’s program, with a concentration in rehabilitation counseling, is accredited by the national Council on Rehabilitation Education.
The program is designed for part-time students who are working in rehabilitation or have experience working with individuals with disabilities. A minimum of two years of related work experience is required for program admission.
Once admitted, students can participate in weekly assignments at times convenient to them. A degree typically can be earned in three years.
“It always feels good to have external recognition for the hard work by our department and university. The ranking verifies the consistent high praise we get from our alumni and employers indicating that our graduates are highly trained, competent rehabilitation professionals,” said Associate Professor DeLeana Strohl, the online program director.
“Our vocational rehabilitation faculty are leaders in the field that continually teach and mentor students so they can meet the demands of our constantly changing society and focus on improving the lives of persons with disabilities,” Strohl added.
Among the top 15 schools in the ranking, UW-Stout’s program is the second most affordable.
In addition to online, UW-Stout offers a traditional master’s in vocational rehabilitation, with three concentrations. Students in the on-campus program can expect to earn the degree in two years.
In 2012, the on-campus program was ranked in the top 10 by U.S. News & World Report’s Best Graduate Schools.
UW-Stout also offers a bachelor’s degree program in vocational rehabilitation, with 10 concentrations, and is home to the Stout Vocational Rehabilitation Institute, a teaching facility that provides research, training and clinical services.
