This year’s Syttende Mai celebration here was virtual but still included a meal and a program of Norwegian music,
Take-home meals prepared for more than 90 people were picked up at the Holiday Inn South on Monday, along with a recorded program, “Bits and Pieces: Norwegian Music from 1814 – 2017.” The program was presented by UW-Eau Claire Prof. Emeritus Ivar Lunde.
The annual May 17 observance celebrates Norwegian Constitution Day. It was sponsored here this year by three local organizations – the Midwest Institute of Scandinavian Culture, Sons of Norway, and the Waldemar Ager Association.
The occasion has been celebrated in Eau Claire for more than 100 years. For an article that discusses the history of Syttende Mai, click here.
