The 21st annual Give-a-Kid-a-Book project is collecting new, unwrapped books to be distributed to children and teens through local agencies.
Project partners include the Friends of the L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library, Books-A-Million, the Salvation Army, and several other Eau Claire agencies. In 2014, almost 4,000 books were distributed to children in need.
Books and monetary donations for Give-a-Kid-a-Book may be delivered to the Library through Dec. 25 during regular library hours. Donations may be placed under the evergreen tree at the public library in December, or checks may be mailed to Friends of LEPMPL, 400 Eau Claire Street, Eau Claire, WI 54701. Friends of the Library volunteers will shop for books with the donated money.
On Dec. 6, books may be taken to UW–Eau Claire’s holiday concerts at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. in Zorn Arena. Books-A-Million in Eau Claire also is hosting a book drive for the project through Dec. 19.
Suggestions for new books for the Give-a-Kid-a-Book project include board books for babies, easy picture books for ages 2 to 5, and fiction and non-fiction books for ages 6 to 18. Audiobooks for all ages up to 18, as well as books written in Spanish and Hmong, also are needed.
