The Wisconsin Supreme Court has allowed cameras and microphones in state courtrooms, subject to reasonable restrictions, since 1979. Several high-profile trials in Wisconsin have since been broadcast live.
However, Judge Ellen Berz’s orders in a recent Dane County murder trial suggest a dangerous turn towards excluding cases of public interest from media coverage.
