Two free upcoming programs have been announced by the Eau Claire County Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC).
“Stepping On,” a seven-week program aimed at reducing falls for older adults, will begin on Oct. 17. A seminar on “Medicare and You” is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 21.
Participants in the “Stepping On” program will learn and practice strength and balance exercises and learn how medication, vision changes, footwear and home modifications can affect the risks they run for falls. The program, run by trained leaders, has been proven to build confidence and reduce falls, according to an ADRC press release.
The program will meet on Wednesdays from 9 to 11 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 202 W. Grand Ave. in Eau Claire. It will run through Dec. 5, with no class on the day before Thanksgiving (Nov. 21).
An elder benefit specialist from the ADRC will run the Medicare seminar, which will meet in Room 1277 in the County Courthouse. It is intended for people who are new to Medicare, those currently on Medicare, their families and Medicare caregivers.
Information will be provided on Medicare supplemental insurance and its cost, Medicare Advantage plans, Medicare Part D and Wisconsin SeniorCare.
Advance registration for both programs can be completed at www.adrcevents.org or by calling the ADRC at 715-839-4735. The “Stepping On” program has a limited size, and advance registration is required.
