Eau Claire County’s Aging & Disabilities Resource Center (ADRC) is offering programs this month on the topics of “Walk With Ease” and “Final Affairs.”
Both are open to the public at no cost, but advance registrations are required.
The six-week “Walk With Ease” program is designed to help people living with arthritis better manage their pain and is also aimed at people without arthritis who want to make walking a daily habit. The program, led by a certified instructor, will meet from 9 to 10 a.m. on Wednesdays starting on Aug. 1 and continuing through Sept. 12 at Grace Lutheran Church, 202 W. Grand Ave. in Eau Claire.
Program participants will learn proper stretching and pain management techniques, as well as proper walking paces and how to build stamina. The program can be modified to meet the needs of individual participants so that everyone can develop an exercise routine that fits their unique goals.
People who can be on their feet for 10 minutes without increased pain will most likely have success with “Walk With Ease,” according to an ADRC press release, which also urges people to check with their physicians before starting any new exercise program.
Pre-registration is required at www.adrcevents.org or by calling 715-839-4735 or 1-888-338-4636.
Second program scheduled for Aug. 22
The second program – “Final Affairs: A Guide to Arranging Your Personal and Legal Affairs” – is scheduled for Aug. 22 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Community Room at Dove Healthcare-West, 1405 Truax Blvd. in Eau Claire. Dove and the ADRC are partnering with Mayo Clinic Health System, HSHS St. Joseph’s Home Health and St. Croix Hospice to offer the daylong event.
Registration for this program begins on July 16, either online at www.adrcevent.org or by calling the ADRC at 715-839-4735 or 1-888-338-4636. Space is limited and early registration is advised.
Program speakers will address such topics as “do not resuscitate” decisions, power of attorney, palliative and hospice care, legal concerns, Medicare versus Medicaid, organ donation and funeral planning. The program includes lunch and refreshments and participants will receive copies of a “Final Affairs Guide.”
More information about either program is available online at www.adrc@co.eau-claire.wi.us or by phone from the ADRC.
