McGaha’s memoir recounts the change in her family’s world after she and her husband discovered they owed back taxes—a lot of back taxes. Desperate to save money, they foreclosed on their beloved suburban home and moved their family to a 100-year-old cabin in a North Carolina holler. McGaha’s life soon began to resemble more closely that of her Appalachian ancestors, something that her upper-middle-class upbringing had not prepared her for.
What started as a last-ditch effort to settle debts became a journey of rediscovery as the family struggled toward the true meaning of home, according to a press release from the library.
Those looking for technical assistance to get started with library e-books are invited to attend Tech Tuesdays, a monthly opportunity to get one-on-one training with an e-reader, iPad, laptop, or tablet. The next Tech Tuesday will be on Apr. 10 from 2-4 p.m. in the Dabble Box. Individual appointments are also available.
