Sodexo Blugold Dining collected 3,297 pounds of food and $1,642 in cash on Nov. 30 from University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire students, faculty and staff, according to Brian Gomez, the dining service’s marketing manager.
The collections were part of the “Helping Hands Across America” food drive sponsored at Davies Center by the dining service.
The food and cash has been donated to Feed My People Food Bank in Eau Claire, where it will benefit senior citizens, single parents, the working poor, the homeless, the mentally ill and others across the Chippewa Valley, Gomez said in a press release.
In the past 10 years, the “Helping Hands Across America” food drive has produced 35,740 pounds of food and $5,097 in cash for Feed My People, according to the press release.
More than 14,500 people each month – 38% of them children – rely on food from Feed My People programs.
