Community members are invited to the L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library in Eau Claire” on June 2 to “play, make and share” at the second annual “Dabble Day” maker fest.
The Saturday event, which has attracted 15 co-sponsors this year, will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Live music and food trucks will provide a festive atmosphere aimed at participation by families.
Last year, the library unveiled the Dabble Box, a “do-it-yourself” multi-purpose programming space where library visitors can explore technology, arts, and crafts. The innovation proved to be a huge success and the library staff decided to expand the idea with an outdoor installation last August on Eau Claire Street.
This year, a variety of maker stations with demonstrations and make-and-take activities will be provided by the library’s Dabble Box makerspace and many other community partners.
Isa Small, programming and communications services librarian, said the event is intended to provide an opportunity for families to enjoy a day of exploration and fun.
“We received such a positive response to Dabble Day 2017 that we really invested in expanding the number of partners and the scope of activities this time around,” Small said. “Over 300 people attended last year’s event, and we’re expecting an even bigger turnout on June 2.”
There is no charge for demonstrations or the make-and-take activities. Refreshments will be available to purchase from Davis Dogs and The Marigold food trucks.
The event is presented in cooperation with US Bank, and is co-sponsored by: Art By Jason Anhorn, Blue Boxer Arts, Caradori Pottery, the Children’s Museum of Eau Claire, the Chippewa Valley Book Festival, the Chippewa Valley Museum, Chippewa Valley Technical College’s Library & Information Services Program, Da Vinci’s Workshop, the Eau Claire Area School District, the Eau Claire Regional Art Center’s ARTmobile, the Friends of the L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library, Regis Catholic Schools, UW–Eau Claire’s McIntyre Library, and the West Wisconsin Wood Carvers Guild.
