By Katherine Schneider, for the Chippewa Valley Post
Editor’s note: This is the start of the second week for a new CVPost feature by Kathie Schneider. You will find three of her columns a week in this space.
Various “Good Stuff”
One local senior living facility has hallway bingo; someone bellows the numbers down the hall and you play on your card in your room.
Neighborhoods are having bear hunts, shamrock hunts, etc. for neighbors to put objects in windows for kids to find at a safe social distance outside.
The “Hope Is The Thing” Project is a community-wide, collaborative writing effort committed to finding the hope in the current heartache. Each day throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Chippewa Valley Writers Guild members (and their friends!) will post a new piece of writing inspired by glimpses of hope observed in this difficult time. Complete submission guidelines for this are available at http://www.cvwritersguild.org/writing-the-valley-1/2020/3/20/hope-is-the-thing-a-community-wide-collaborative-writing-project.
And more “Good Stuff”:
- The St. Paul Pioneer Press has a “daily distraction” column with ideas of things to do while sheltering in place; one day’s offering was a book review of Barbara Ehrenreich’s new book of essays, Had I Known: Collected Essays.
- From the “Next Door Neighborhood” app (a hub where neighbors can exchange information on everything from lost dogs to roofer recommendations): Someone offering to help kids get to schools to get their free meals.
- From a Facebook post: “Either I’ll come out of this 20 pounds lighter, with lots of craft projects completed and having read the Bible from front to back or I’ll come out of this 20 pounds heavier with a drinking problem.”
- Also from Facebook: “Today I talked to a spider to have someone to talk to. He seemed like a nice fella. He was a web designer.”
