A campaign to end childhood poverty in Wisconsin will get underway on Wednesday, Nov. 15 with a meeting at First Presbyterian Church, 2112 Rudolph Rd. in Eau Claire.
The program, sponsored by JONAH (Joining Our Neighbors, Advancing Hope), will feature David Liners, director of JONAH’s statewide parent group, WISDOM. The meeting is scheduled to run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and is open to the public.
JONAH’s campaign will focus on increasing equal opportunity and quality of life for all Wisconsin children. It will try to push the state to adopt and achieve three major goals: reducing childhood poverty by half statewide; cutting racial disparities in child poverty rates, also by half; and creating a reliable method of tracking progress.
JONAH is a faith-based Chippewa Valley group concerned with social justice issues. Further information about the Nov. 15 meeting or the campaign against childhood poverty is available by emailing Donna Raleigh, JONAH’s secretary, at draleigh@uwec.edu.
