The Eau Claire March for Science, which was snowed out on Apr. 14, has been rescheduled for Sunday, May 20 at 2 p.m.
It was originally scheduled as a satellite event to marches that took place around the world on Apr. 14. The May 20 march will start from the UW-Eau Claire campus mall and end in Phoenix Park.
Kate Beaton, a co-organizer of the march, said the sponsoring groups were excited to be able to reschedule the event for the community.
“It was disappointing and alarming to have cancelled this event because of such a strong snow storm so late in the season,” Beaton said in a press release. ” with the cancellation of the event, we saw that the community does have a strong interest in coming together now for the second year in a row to celebrate our planet and call for science-based solutions to climate change.”
The march will go from the UW-EC campus mall along the planet walk, with stops to hear speakers along the way. There will also be speakers at the final stop in Phoenix Park, where interested people can sign up to work with local organizations working to bring about change in the community.
Scheduled speakers include Rev, Dean Simpson, pastor at Grace Lutheran Church, leader of JONAH’s eco-spirituality group and an avid fly fisherman; Taylor Limberg, a UW-EC geography student and a member of the Student Office of Sustainability; Erik Keisler, executive director of Beaver Creek Reserve; and Violet Kilmurray, a student at Eau Claire Memorial High School and a local leader in both the Indivisible organization and the women’s march group.
