The Mobile Mexican Consulate based in St. Paul will visit Eau Claire for the seventh time on Saturday, Sept. 28.
From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Consulate officials will be at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 3214 Golf Rd.
Organized by JONAH’s Immigration Task Force, previous visits from the Consulate allowed residents to obtain Mexican ID cards, passports and visas without requiring them to travel to the Twin Cities.
Joyce Anderson, co-chair of the Task Force, said she is unsure of what this year’s visit will entail.
“It’s an opportunity for Mexican immigrants to connect with a representative of their government for a variety of reasons; including – but not limited to – providing their government with updates of births, deaths, marital status, getting an identification card and answering immigration questions,” Anderson said in an email.
JONAH (Joining Our Neighbors, Advancing Hope) is a grassroots Chippewa Valley organization made up primarily of diverse faith communities. Its overall focus is on social justice issues. The impetus for the Mobile Consulate grew from the need to serve Mexican citizens living outside the Twin Cities whose work schedules keep them from visiting the Consulate during its weekday hours
