How news media and democracies relate to each other will be explored next Monday evening (Oct. 3) in a News Engagement Day panel discussion sponsored by the Chippewa Valley Post.
The program is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Room 1415 in Centennial Hall on the UW-Eau Claire campus. The event, co-sponsored by the UW-EC student chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ), is free and open to the public.
News Engagement Day is a national effort by journalism and mass communication educators to increase the public’s understanding of the news media’s role in the United States and other democratic societies. Monday’s program will explore this topic through a panel discussion and questions from the audience.
Panel members will include Joe Radske, news director at WEAU-TV, Leader Telegram reporter Andrew Dowd and Mike Dorsher, emeritus professor of journalism at UW-EC,. They will be joined by a member of the student SPJ chapter at UW-EC.
Following the panel members’ presentations, there will be an opportunity for audience members to ask questions.
