The annual 5K fund-raising run/walk sponsored by Group Health Cooperative is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 19), starting and finishing in Owen Park.
The Halloween-themed “Haunted Hustle” event will include a half-mile “Spooky Sprint” race for kids, as well as other activities for them. The sprint will start at 9:15 a.m.
The event is aiming to raise $12,000 to be split among three local non-profit organizations: the Epilepsy Foundation of Western Wisconsin, Girl Scouts of the Northwestern Great Lakes and the L. E. Phillips Career Development Center. Last year’s event raised a total of $9,100.
Registration for the 5K race is $30 and is $15 for the sprint. Registration can be completed online at https://group-health.com/haunted-hustle or at Owen Park, starting at 8 a.m. Saturday.
The Saturday morning activities will also include a silent auction, featuring items donated by local businesses. The race course will pass through areas that each organization benefitting from the proceeds has been invited to decorate.
Participants in both races will have the opportunity to vote for one of the three designated recipients. The organization receiving the most votes will receive half of the total proceeds while the second-place vote-getter will receive 30 per cent. The third organization will receive the remaining 20 per cent.
Local vendors will have food and drinks available for purchase, starting at 8 a.m.
