There’s the excitement and anxiety of returning – at least partially – to pre-pandemic life.
But, there’s also the fact that there’s seemingly no finish line in our battle with the Corona virus. Will we need revaccination every year? Stay tuned!
I’m no runner, but some advice to long distance runners seems to fit our situation:
- Keep a sustainable pace; e.g., add back one or two in-person events at a time. Don’t try your full schedule all at once.
- Focus on your accomplishments so far –what can you take pride in that you did during the pandemic? For me, I’ve learned new technologies like Zoom, written over 70 blogs and checked on four friends who live alone every day for about 15 months.
- Take one day at a time and savor its little joys. When your mind wanders to “What about the next COVID spike?,” pull it back to what good thing is happening right now – a bird song, a smell of flowers, a smile from a friend, etc.
- Keep hydrated (mental, emotional and spiritual refreshment as well as good old H2O).
This week’s ‘refreshments’
Some of my refreshments this week have been:
- reading Miss Benson’s Beetle by Rachel Joyce. It’s a women’s road trip story with unlikely companions sharing a journey to the South Pacific;
- a new podcast, “70 Over 70”;
- shopping at the Farmers’ Market;
- lunching with friends.
Like ”Ol’ Man River,” just keep on rolling along!
