Isn’t spring wonderful?
To balance a heavy week of advocacy work, it dawned on me I needed some delights. So far, the “delights list” includes:
- Friends dropped off cookies and flowers that needed good homes. The flowers kept moving and the cookies went into the freezer for later sharing.
- Since I’m fully vaccinated, I celebrated getting older with a restaurant meal and a recreational shopping trip!
- A sighting from a walk around the neighborhood: A 5 ½ year-old was wobbling down the sidewalk on his bike for the first time without training wheels. Mom was busy filming it on her cellphone to send to grandparents. Calvin and I stopped and watched for a couple of minutes and are glad to report, no crashes for the little guy yet.
- The Book of Delights by Ross Gay (a year’s worth of little things that delighted him). Reading a couple of chapters makes me notice more delights in my world
- Friends near Menomonie did the crane count and reported: “We saw 23 cranes in total, but did not hear any unison calling from a mating pair. We think it is too early.”
- A bookfind: “The Dog Dialed 911” by William Bastone (laugh out loud true stories from the “Smoking Gun” podcast).
- A recent NPR story about the Jerusalema dance craze came to mind as I played tug with Calvin, with Cajun music in the background– we were dancing!
As Edith Wharton said in “Spring Song”,
“The next bright dawn is sure to bring;
Slow breaking into green completeness,
Fresh rapture of the early Spring”!
Spring has sprung!
