Journalism trends in western Wisconsin and the news media’s role in western Wisconsin communities will be discussed on “The West Side” at 10 a.m. today (Sept. 23) on Wisconsin Public Radio.
Host Dean Kallenbach will welcome four panelists to the program. They include Gary Johnson, editor of the Eau Claire Leader-Telegram; Andris Straumanis, associate professor of Communication and Media Studies at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls; Dan Schillinger, recently retired news director at WQOW-TV in Eau Claire and now the station’s Community Relations Director; and David Gordon, board chair of the Chippewa Valley Post and emeritus professor at UW-Eau Claire.
The program is broadcast on WPR’s Ideas Network stations in western Wisconsin, WHWC-FM (88.3 FM) in Menomonie-Eau Claire and WRFW-FM (88.7) in River Falls. It is live streamed at www.wrfw887.com. The broadcast is scheduled eight days ahead of News Engagement Day on Oct. 1, and plans for that day will also be discussed,
