World Aids Day will be observed here on Dec. 1 at the L.E. Philips Memorial Public Library with a 6 p.m. program in the Eau Claire Room.
Attendees will hear from longtime survivors of HIV, who will tell about what it was like being diagnosed before the advent of lifesaving treatments, and what life is like for someone living with HIV in the Chippewa Valley today. A moment of remembrance and special music will be provided by Unitarian Universalist Congregation (UUC).
World AIDS Day has been held annually on Dec. 1 since 1988. It is dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection. It also provides an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV, and commemorate people who have died of AIDS.
This year’s local program is co-sponsored by the UUC and the AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin, which is a private, non-profit health and social service agency that works to confront and alleviate the effects of HIV.
