Karen Loeb, Eau Claire’s current Writer-in-Residence, will host the September session of the “Writers Read” program on Thursday at the L. E. Phillips Memorial Public Library.
The program is scheduled for 6 p.m. in the Eau Claire room on the library’s lower level. Sign-up will begin at 5:45 p.m. and listeners are welcome.
Local writers are invited to share their original prose or poetry at the program, according to a press release from the library. Presentations should be limited to five minutes, however.
Loeb is an emerita professor of English at UW–Eau Claire. She was confirmed as the newest writer-in-residence by the City Council last April, succeeding Max Garland, also a retired UW-EC English faculty member and a former Wisconsin poet laureate.
Loeb has written an award-winning collection of short stories (Jump Rope Queen and Other Stories) and her work has been published in Fiction Southeast, Hanging Loose, New Ohio Review and other magazines. Her poem “In the Science Museum,” won the 2016 Wisconsin People & Ideas contest.
“Writers Read” is a monthly library presentation organized by the city’s Writer-in-Residence. Each reading features original poetry and prose written by writers living and working in the Chippewa Valley.
