The L. E. Phillips Memorial Public Library is seeking public input from now through Dec. 7 on its plans for a major expansion.
The project would add a third story to the existing building at 400 Eau Claire St. and expand the first and second floors outward to the corner of Eau Claire and Dewey Streets. A library press release said the project would also upgrade and modernize the building’s infrastructure.
The library is asking members of the public for comments after they read the current draft of the project proposal. Comments can be provided via a survey, which will be available until Dec. 7. It can be found at www.ecpubliclibrary.info/survey and can also be filled out by stopping at the library.
The proposed expansion plans call for a public campaign to raise $11.5 million to match the amount already approved by the City Council to bring the building into compliance with safety and accessibility standards. The additional funding would enable the project to go beyond the required minimum standards, including the addition of a 250-seat performance space and a technology commons with high-speed Internet access.
