This year’s annual banquet and program celebrating Syttende Mai (May 17th) have been cancelled, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but plans are already underway for next year’s observance.
The cancellation was announced by Norden Folk, Sons of Norway, and the Waldemar Ager Association.
The three co-sponsoring groups said in a press release that UW-Eau Claire Prof. Emeritus Ivar Lunde, Jr. will be featured at next year’s May 17 observance. Lunde will use sound and pictures to illustrate the many styles of music produced in Norway during the past 200 years.
Th short program will start with a “visit” to Eidsvoll, the site where the Norwegian constitution was signed on May 17, 1814. Lunde’s program will eventually circle back to a musical program held at Eidsvoll in 2017.
The 2021 program is scheduled to be held at the Holiday Inn South, 4751 Owen Ayres Court in Eau Claire. The annual observance commemorates Norwegian Constitution Day.
