Access to UW-Eau Claire’s lower campus will be difficult – to say the least – until the city reopens State Street, which is currently under reconstruction between Garfield Avenue and Lexington Boulevard.
UW-EC Police Chief Jay Dobson has informed the university community that the State-Garfield intersection adjacent to the campus will be closed from Tuesday (Sept. 3) until at least Sept. 27. He noted that the State Street crossings at McKinley and Roosevelt Avenues have been closed since mid-August and won’t reopen until at least Oct. 18, which is the city’s tentative date for completing the project.
Until then, access to the main lower campus will be via Park Avenue to or from the eastbound lanes on Summit Avenue or via State Street to or from the east entrance to the Hibbard parking lot, Dobson said in a UW-EC press release. He urged students, faculty and staff to allow extra travel time to and from the campus until State Street reopens.
“The UW-Eau Claire Police, in collaboration with the Eau Claire Police Department, will be monitoring traffic flows and assisting as needed, with the safety of pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists being our priority,” Dobson said.
Eau Claire Transit buses and The Priory shuttle will continue to pick up and drop off riders at Centennial Hall along Park Avenue, Dobson said. He cautioned that the road closures will affect the schedules of both services and added that updated schedules will be available online at uwec.ly/parking.
Dobson also encouraged “all who can do so to consider carpooling, taking the bus, walking or bicycling to campus during September as a way to help address traffic slowdowns due to the city street closures.”
