Chippewa Valley newspapers participated in Thursday’s coordinated national effort to respond through editorials to the barrage of attacks unleashed on them by President Donald Trump and others who use the press as a convenient target when its coverage is not to their liking. The goal for Thursday was for as many U.S. newspapers as possible to write and publish editorials that denounce what The Boston Globe called “a dirty war against the free press.”
Phoenix Park to host “Taste of the Valley starting at 11 a.m. today
“Taste of the Valley” will transform Phoenix Park today into a festival grounds that showcases the areas restaurants and breweries.
The event will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free, and food items will cost from $1 to $5.
Volunteers still needed to staff “Taste of the Valley” on June 3
The “Taste of the Valley” organizing committee is still looking for about 35 more volunteers to help with the June 3 event. JONAH community forum focuses on homelessness and poverty
Poverty and homelessness – and a looming funding crisis that threatens both temporary and sustainable housing for people in need of it – were the focus of a Monday evening forum that attracted some 60 community members to the First Congregational United Church of Christ.
Panelists sketched a picture of Eau Claire County poverty that frequently goes unrecognized, and stressed the need for many more affordable housing units than are now available. .
